Sled
dogs loving the snow!
It's
not easy being a sled dog.
Putting up with tough, harsh conditions and a long hard
pull. But consider that Alaskan and Siberian Huskies
have been bred to mush in the snow and love it.
A
great sled dog loves being on the go and seeing just
what's around the corner. This is a popular sport in
Alaska. In states like Colorado you can find dog sledding
adventure companies in places like Durango. You can
sit back and let a team of experienced dogs and a guide
take you to the beautiful back country.
Although
sled dogs are tough, they have sensitive feet. Many
mushers use fleece-lined dog
boots to keep their pooches warm and protected and
will go through lots of boots on long hauls.
If
you're wondering about the calorie intake of some of
the most serious hard working sled dogs out there, consider
the average dog's 1500 daily calories compared to 10,000
for our mushing friends!
