Know
about your particular dog breed before choosing your
pet
There
are lots of loving puppies and dogs out there in dire
need of good homes. The ASPCA and numerous other pet
adoption and pet care centers provide lots of choice
companions. While the dogs may not be pure bred, or
puppies you will be able to get information about their
history and heritage (breed or breed mixture), at least
as much information as the pet care center has available.
Dog
breed and breed information can be found online. I recommend
looking at the American Kennel Club's website as it
lists breeds according to their group which is a great
place to start.
The
dog lineage groups are:
- Sporting
group
- Hound
group
- Herding
group
- Working
group
- Non-sporting
group
- Toy
group
- Terrier
group
Each
group will than include specific dogs, like Maltese
and Pug in the Toy group.
You will get a clue that if, for example, you are looking
more for a low keyed lapdog, choosing a pooch from the
herding group like a German Shepherd isn't a good choice.
Addressing
your family's lifestyle needs before choosing your new
family pet will ensure a happy match for all of you.
