Reward-based training for shaping dog behavior.

A well behaved dog is like sand at the beach, you've got to have it! The irritation that poor dog behavior can cause, such as when he's chewing up the house, barking incessantly, or jumping on guests and begging for their food, is a headache for everyone.

To overcome unwanted dog mannerisms it's necessary to retrain your dog.
In the case of a puppy, be sure to train him as he grows. You may wish to seek an obedience trainer or animal behaviorist, especially if you are dealing with aggressive behavior. Taking an obedience class together can be a great way to bond with your dog.

There are plenty of books written about behavior of dogs as well as dog and puppy training. There is also a lot of free information on the internet.

The important thing to remember is to use only positive and reward based training to work with your dog's conduct. Harsh techniques are cruel, and can also backfire. An alpha dog can get more aggressive with negative training because he feels threatened and his survival instincts kick in.
